Project 52: Week 13.....

This past week (May 28th-June 3)

I....
  • made a plan to stay on top of the everyday chores & activities
  • did a pretty good job of staying on top of them.
  • organized our bills and came to the conclusion that I need a job. Who wants to pay me for exploring Pinterest??
  • barely saved another chicken as the dog tried to take it out of my hands. Airi is a chicken killer.
  • was called the bible guru by a friend. Yep thats me official bible guru. Not .Just dont ask what the question was that sparked this conversation.
  • realized that in the process of God teaching me that I wasn't all bad that I had started believing I was all good. Sadly forgetting the person I was and how if not for Christ I would still be her.
  • started opening my eyes again to God in the little details. Yes he is there!!
  • started seeing people as they are and not through a set of rules and laws. Ok Im still working on that.
  • went on a date night with Scott that included taking Airi to Seven Islands Refuge (she also loves rabbits), Taco Bell and a movie at home. Perfect!!
  • took Lotus and her friend Cinna yardselling and to get doughnuts at Krispy Kreme.
  • made a meal plan from my Pinterest recipes.
  • visited with my friends Chantay, Lynne and Trish
  • started back with my guitar lessons after a week hiatus.
  • was almost trampled by Luly various times throughout the week. The dog is hyper!!

  • enjoyed some much needed pool time.
  • spent the night with friends and had friends spend the night.
  • got some sun. Killian got a little too much sun.
  • helped out around the house and got used to their new chore assignments.

Project 52: Week 12...

Things are finally getting back to normal which for us will be a new normal. One where we don't take for granted each day and where we show so much love that we make people sick. In a your kinda freaking me out cuz you love me so much, but I'm kinda loving it too way. My mind has been racing with things I want to write about (Boy do I love it when God does that!!) and I'm getting my groove back. Truth be told I lost it for a little bit. My niece's death kinda knocked me off my feet in a suprising way. Left things blurry, but its clearing out. Thankfully I have good friends who walk with me through the tough times and stay the course with me.

Week in and week out.

Week 12 (May 21st-27th)...

This past week...

We:
  • said good bye to another chicken. Their dropping like flies around here. Now were down to 2.
  • spent another eventful night with the family at our monthly get togethers which consisted of a 3 mile night hike through the backwoods of Sunbright (aka boonies) with only a cell phone light. no pictures, but lets just say I might have got stuck in the mud on a flooded dirt road, we might also have ended up with 20 ticks between the 4 of us and I might have lost my religion at various points during the walk. We also had the rest of the family come looking for us since we were only supposed to be gone for 15 minutes. 3hrs later we arrive covered in mud, ticks and sweat. However it really was a good time and some well spent time with the niece, nephew in law, great niece and brother. Definitely a memory that will stick with us.
  • spent the weekend camping in Cades Cove with our good friends the Browns. Camping with the Browns= eating really good food and homemade ice cream & brownies, great conversation, husbands acting silly (see pic below), lounging around, cards, corn hole, hiking to waterfall & swimming

  • (the kids and I) went to my very good friend Shannon's Ice Cream Social to help her raise funds and ate yummy Marble Slab. Support her here.
Lotus and Lena being silly at Marble Slab
 I:
  • got to spend some much needed time with Shannon before she headed back to Haiti. Panera how I love you.
  • cuddled up in the hammock with Ari. Thank you Brad for leaving that behind when you moved. You have no idea how much we love it.

  • started reading the book "Anything" by Jennie Allen which is incredible.

  • had some great conversations with great friends. Topics.. Faith and politics.
  • held the cutest baby goat ever. I have proof, Goats love me!!
So there it is our week in a review. Life is good!!

Project 52: Week 6 - Week 11

April 9th - May 20th....

Life is strange and unpredictable, beautiful and horrible, all at the same time. And the past few weeks, although still filled with everyday life, were also filled with goodbyes I wasn't ready to make, questions I didn't have answers too and a reevaluation of what I truly believe. I guess that's what happens when you face the loss of someone you love. Its like you slow down while it seems life speeds up and you get to the end six weeks later not really knowing how you got here.

But you do get here. Here six weeks out from my last blog post and looking over these last few weeks different than I was.

In the past few weeks...

We:
  • said good bye to my niece, Shelby, who died in a car accident April 28th.
  • held her 7 month old baby boy close. Watching him smile, completely unaware of the fact that he would not see his mama again.
  • spent time with family in the weeks to follow and  realized that we are very blessed to have each other.
  • watched as family and friends came in and showed us great love.
  • cried a lot, but laughed more.
  • also welcomed our newest family member, baby boy Nash. Who came into the world on May 14th and brought hope to a painful situation.
I:
  • had the part of myself that was judgmental and harsh brought to its knees
  • watched my brother and sister in law experience a pain that no parent should have to experience
  • didn't have my normal answers to the everyday hurts and learned that loving God, loving people sometimes means just being their with people in their grief
  • had questions, doubts, uncertainty and still found God right there with me
  • realized that we Christians say very dumb things when faced with death and really need to let God teach us what his word actually teaches about death and grieving. Or at least the fine art of keeping quiet.
  • was reminded that life is short, precious, uncertain and filled with great pain and beauty
  • officiated my niece's funeral and had to put words to life and death, love and loss
  • was challenged to live life, knee's bleeding in prayer for others
  • also spent time at the beach with my friend. Helping her work a wedding and enjoying some much needed rest and fun. Very strangely celebrating life while still grieving death
On the homestead:
  • we welcomed the very sweet Ari who was my niece's dog into our home
  • we said good bye to 3 of our chickens who met their fate at the paws of the very sweet Ari and a troublemaking neighborhood dog

  • watched my sister's cat while she was out of town.
  • enjoyed our evening thunderstorms because they rinsed away the pollen.

  • destroyed ant colonies that decided they liked our house a little too much
  • prepared for our camping trip
  • had some great laughs this week as a family
  • awoke to Luly being covered in hives and swollen one day. Which was cured with a bath and Benadryl. Why did I not get pictures??
  • realized having animals puts a dent in our spontaneous trips, but brings a whole lot of fun to daily life
  • finally got to go on our long awaited camping trip to Big South Fork.
  • set up our tent in the rain and cold. Ugh
  • woke up freezing cold while camping and realized I had brought way to few warm clothes
  • had a blast with our friends the Browns camping and also made some new ones.
  • listened to our new friend Savee tell us about the horrors of growing up in Cambodia after Vietnam and was given a new appreciation for our lives. However we were also reminded of the urgency of spreading the gospel
  • sang praises to our God fireside
  • ate way too much food which made my belly very happy. Especially when we Marshmallow Peep Smores. Yum!!
  • hiked to Angel Falls and saw quite a few snakes.
  • celebrated the Ressurection fellowshipping with friends.
Killian:
  • continues to play way too many video games
  • bothered me about going camping everyday
  • learned alot about caring for a home
  • did a great job helping set up the campsite and taking it down
  • loved the bike ride, but thought he was going to die because of the length and difficulty of the trail
  • explored the campground with his friend Nicholas. God knows what kind of trouble they got into, but at least they werent playing video games.
  • still loves getting an Easter basket.

  • read everyday
  • had to say her bedtime prayers every night :-)
  • was very happy when she found Dorky Diary Book 3 in her Easter basket.
I:
  • cleaned out the chicken coop which was a job and a half
  • turned the compost after adding the chicken droppings and was amazed at the amount of worms
  • cleaned weeds out of the front garden, but feel its a never ending battle
  • finally took pics of the finished coop which hasn't been painted and isn't too pretty, but only cost $12 to make. Perhaps in the future we will make something nicer.

  • spent way too much time on Pinterest again
  • went shopping with Christy to get ready for the camping trip and had lots of laughs
  • packed, cleaned and wore myself out preparing for the camping trip
  • enjoyed listening to Savee's stories and her love for God
  • had a fire reignited for God's word
  • realized I lack a sense of urgency when it comes to sharing the gospel
  • went on a wonderful walk with Christy & Savee.
  • slept like a rock while camping
  • was happy to come home cause I missed my chickens and the puppy. Yep its offical Im becoming one of those people.
  • didn't take one picture during the camping trip which makes me the worse blogging scrapper on the face of the earth.
Scott:
  • got the bikes ready for some weekend riding
  • helped find someone to watch the chickens
  • got way too little sleep again, but the camping trip helped
  • was in desperate need of this camping trip
  • hated the set up of the tent, but loved waking up to cowboy coffee in the great outdoors.
  • biked with Kevin and the boys. Then came back to the campsite worn out and happy.
  • took the girls for a night hike looking for snakes and nocturnal creatures.
  • took the kids exploring during the daytime.

Project 52: Week 3 and 4...

As many of you know by now my blogging can be sporadic, but instead of thinking of it as laziness on my part I prefer to say that life is so full that it leaves little room for blogging. Aka known as laziness. So sadly I will be combining  week 3 and 4 into one blog post of awesomeness.

Week 3 (March 19th-25th) is void of lots of pics cause the camera somehow always ending up inside. Hum??....

This week ...

  • enjoyed dinner with all my family at our monthly get together
  • had a rather uneventful week that mostly included lots of hard work.

  • (the kids and I) walked to Sonic, the grocery store and the convenient store in our adventures with Luly
Killian:
  • got stuck in his laundry basket while playing around with Lotus and had to be pulled out of it by Scott and me. Sadly I made a mistake with the camera and failed to capture this hilarious moment.
  • finished Unit 19 in his Exploring America literature/history and advanced in his pre-algebra studies
  • hung with his friend Tyson
  • had to shop with me more than he would like
  • walked Luly every morning without being asked. It is a miracle!!
Lotus:
  • explored the backyard and added info to her nature journal
  • got her first bloody nose in months.

  • continued reading the second book in the Diary of a Dorky Girl series
  • enjoyed playing with the next door neighbor in their backyard oasis complete with hidden playhouse, trampoline and a half acre of make believe adventure

I:
  • worked hard everyday
  • got a work out walking Luly
  • enjoyed the time spent exploring our neighborhood with the kids
  • battled a little bit of the enemies lies and had to remind myself of God's grace
  • avoided talking to God because of shame, but was slowly letting him heal those places
 Scott:
  • worked hard completing the chicken coop
  • worked hard at work
  • was very tired from working hard. Poor guy.
  • The studly husband fresh from a day at work.
  • continues to be a incredible stud of a husband :-)
Week 4 (March 26th- April 2nd).....
This past week:

We:
  • (the kids and I) went to Muddy Pond Mennonite community with the Memaw & Papaw and got some awesome cheese, some really cheap spices and an amazing, leather collar for Luly. Plus we got the most incredible homemade ice cream and enjoyed the beautiful countryside.
  • (the kids and I) then visited Alvin C York State Historic park  and learned about this famous TN native that was one of the most decorated soldiers of World War I. Which went along with Killian's america history study.

  • watched as the chickens learned to use their trap door and grew accustomed to their new home
  • found 2 more eggs in the bird's nest that has taken up residence in our shed. That I have now started calling the barn. Honestly actually called it the barn by accident the other day. I like it.
Killian:

  • learned about Alvin C. York while exploring the state park named after him and learned a lot from my dad about other war hero's
  • thanked God his parents weren't Mennonite because he is sure he could not stand to live that kinda life. Which in his mind is only hard work and lack of video games. Oh the horror!!
  • finally put the black hoodie away since the temps have been so high
  • annoyed his sister every chance he got

Killian annoying Lotus, but Lotus making sure she poses for the picture with a smile.
  • spent the night with his friend Tyson again and had a Call of Duty marathon with his friend Nicholas
  • has a fascination with guns that should worry me, but actually gives me hope that he is not completely addicted to video games. Well actually he just enjoys watching Son of Guns and reading about them. Hey at least he's reading.
  • decided he wants to see Hunger Games which plays into my plan to read the books together. Yay!!
  • avoided getting a haircut, but refuses to go out without a hat.
  • avoided getting his picture took which is why you will notice we have few pics of him

  • hated seeing Ugly Duckling and begged me to not take him next time.
Lotus:
  • learned about the Mennonites and their customs
  • absolutely fell in love with the little bonnets they wore
  • and I wore our long skirts on our trip to the mennonite village and were sure we could live that way
  • enjoyed shopping at the general store and leather shop.
  • brought home a horse shoe as a souvenier
  • got a kick out of the miniature Statue of Liberty

  • finished the second book in the Diary of a Dorky Girl series.
  • yelled at her brother everytime he did something she thought was dangerous. Making it very clear she is my daughter
  • was also very emotional this week and tested my patience a few times. What is happening to my sweet little girl??
  • and I went to the Great Cake Bake at Neyland Stadium and sampled delicious desserts. Plus got to vote on our favorites and see the stadium for the first time. Coolest part eating our sweets, drinking Cruze Farm chocolate milk and sitting in the bleachers over the stadium.

Lotus and I at the great cake bake with a few of our favorites and taking in the views of the stadium.
  • watched Twilight for the 1st time under my supervision and is a fan now. Not sure how happy I am about this and little does she know thats about the only one I will let her watch.
  • went to Ugly Duckling and then went shopping with her friend Gracie.
  • loved having her picture taken.

 I:
  • started a strange fascination with head coverings and found some I love, but was informed by Scott that it would freak him out if I started wearing them. Well I do have to respect the hubby, but I might sneak one in occasionally. Dont you think the one below by Garlands of Grace are adorable.

the mill waterfall at Alvin C York park

  • loved our Sunday morning worship and communion at White Stone

  • started organizing the basement
  • mowed the lawn so Scott didnt have to, but managed to run into a pole on the carport and hurt my leg (and pride). Also managed to get a ginormous bruise and lump.
  • enjoyed the time I spent talking to my good friends Susan and Christy
  • went to lunch at Fountain City Diner with my friend Lynne and Lotus
  • loved getting out of the house and exploring a piece of TN I hadnt seen before
  • vainly took pics of myself and realized that I love the fact that Im 39. Even if that means my boobs sag and I have wrinkles. God forbid I have to go back to who I was.

  • made a huge mess of things with some of my friends and was reminded that for all my apparent growth these past few years I am still a sinner. A sinner that lies, gossips, gets angry at stupid stuff, jumps to conclusions and tells have truths to cover my butt. A sinner that needs a merciful God and a saviour that is willing to not give up on me when I make a mess of things. That is willing to forgive me even when I cant forgive myself and offer me a clean slate even when I dont deserve it.
  • was also shown how much insecurity still plays such a huge part in my daily life and how much I need to spend time with Jesus to allow him to heal those parts.
  • was humbled and ashamed by the fool I made of myself.
  • was fearful that I havent finished paying the price for my foolishness.
  • prayed that the drama would stop with me and that I hadnt made to huge a mess. Still am.
  • had to confess things about myself I hoped were long gone, but that showed themselves in the last few weeks.
  • was thankful for friends that forgive (Chantay and Alicia)
Scott:
  • had his annual visit to the doctor and found out his blood pressure is still high. So we will be making plans to adjust our lifestyle.
  • worked 6 days straight and still was able to come home and work outside
  • fell off his bike while going down the backyard hill. Show off still thinks he can do tricks like he did when he was a kid.
  • worked hard in the backyard while I took a nap on Sunday. Well he did get an hours nap, but the outdoors were calling him.
  • ached because of his fall.
All in all its been a good couple of weeks, but as you can see I still have a lot to learn.
